It stays hot all the time and will not drain the battery, it is a bolt on, hook one wire up and nothing else. It hooks to the amp gauge, no disconnect, no switch. One is like the link I shared, I have it on Arnold and it has a magneto on it so no switch for power on or off to feed the magneto, it simply grounds it out to kill the tractor. If anyone has any information on these alternators related to the charging and self excite speeds, please post but I expect the one wire denso is the same as all other one wire alternators. I believe there are one wire alternators that will self excite at low rpms but I am not sure the this denso one wire alternator is one of those. To me, a "true" one wire alternator will self excite at around 1200 or so shaft rpms similar to a 3 wire. Leave off the wires for the excite and warning light and it should still function as a one wire alternator but will not excite at low rpms. The Denso 3 wire alternators have a battery terminal, a warning light terminal, and a excite terminal. What is the difference between a "true" one wire alternator and every other one wire alternator? What you describe is just a one wire alternator like all the others. I should have worded my question differently. Not sure what the 2 prong connection would be for but they are not used on the alternator in the link. You run one wire from the post with the nut to your amp gauge and that's it.

I want the look of a generator and want to keep it 12 volt so I am going to put on a spare cub 3 brush generator with a diode as a cutout. I have an Allis Chalmers G with a poorly done alternator conversion such that the alternator fan scrapes the hood. However, the cost of a 12 volt cutout or regulator may not be a whole lot different from an alternator conversion. For low current levels you will be fine, higher current levels may cook the generator. A 2 brush generator likely will also make enough voltage but I have never measured the output of a 6 volt with a 12 volt regulator. Another option is to use a diode instead of a cutout and it will charge a 12 volt battery. What is a true one wire alternator? The one in their photo has 3 wires!Ī 3 brush generator will charge a 12 volt battery but you have to change the cutout or regulator to 12 volt. This is a true one wire and you don't have to have a switch on it.
